Charleston SC- Part 2

Thursday, Matt and I headed to the most visited plantation in the United States, Boone Hall. It's one of America's oldest still working plantations. It was a very powerful visit, slaves lived and worked on this very land years ago. It was heart wrentching to read and learn about life for the slaves and how they finally came to freedom.

We took a tour around the plantation on this tractor.

9 of the original slave cabins… now hold facts, stories and the history of the slaves.

This lady was an amazing story teller… one of her ancestors lived on the plantation as a slave. She now shares  "Gullah" stories and songs that were passed down to her through the generations.

The Butterfly Pavilion

 Stable on the property

Live oak trees run 3/4 of a mile from the entrance to the front house gates, they were breathtaking… all planted in 1743 by the original owner!

Grave sight of Thomas Boone, son of John Boone the original owner for only two years before his death.

Matt the cotton picker. :)

Sight of many weddings (Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively), events and movie scenes (The Notebook).

We toured the mansion but no photography was allowed inside since it's privately owned and the family occasionally stays at the house when in town.
